Jamaica Castor Industry

About Us

The Jamaica Castor Industry Association (JCIA) was founded in 2016 with the mandate to facilitate the development of the Castor oil industry in Jamaica.  It was incorporated in 2017 as a limited liability company with a board of directors elected by its members. The Board is comprised of an elected president, vice president, directors of; technical, marketing, processing, farmers’ development, cultural and historical development, finance and a board secretary (see organization chart – Appendix i). The JCIA membership includes approximately 44 entities registered with the Association as small farmers, producers and producer groups, distributors and value-added manufacturers of Jamaica Black Castor Oil.  Since inception the association has been facilitated by JAMPRO who has provided secretariat services and other general support to assist the development of the industry. consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. The Jamaica Castor Oil (JCO) industry is currently comprised almost entirely of small to medium sized farms, enterprises and distributors. There is also a relatively low barrier to market entry. Besides the startup costs for seeds and land, the industry requires very little mechanization and the castor crop grows well across the island.  Accordingly, the industry is perfectly positioned to combat rural unemployment, poverty and promote bottom-up, inclusive economic growth.
